Nu är det bara två dagar kvar, senast på söndag måste vi ha in anmälningarna om det är fler som vill vara med och tävla om 10,000 kronor i Idépriset '09; "Föreningen fri kultur och programvara delar ut två priser om 10.000 kronor vardera. Pengarna ska gå till att genomföra en bra idé inom ramen för fri kultur och fri programvara i föreningen." I juryn sitter Patrik Wallström, Rasmus Fleischer och Oscar Swartz. Most Swedes have an ID document of some kind, either a national ID card, their passport or their drivers license. I myself have all three of them, and I never imagined the problems it could cause to get one. While this is old news in the overall scope of things, it still surprises me. The background to this story is that the Swedish company which used to issue most of the Swedish ID cards, Svensk Kassaservice, first restricted who could get an ID, and then ceased their ID card operations all in all.

As the year draws to an end, I'm starting to return my thoughts more and more to what I want to do at the house in Jämtland this upcoming summer. This year, I managed in the time I had there, to frame the floor and install the subfloor in both the downstairs toilet and hallway, as well as install the floor heating in the hallway.

Let's get something straight: Santa Clause lives with his wife at the north pole. He goes around on christmas eve and knocks on doors to deliver presents. He doesn't come falling down chimneys, he doesn't put presents in stockings, and he most certainly does not go prancing around with his granddaugter!

If you've ever spent more than a handful of days in Sweden and listened to some Swedish spoken around you, it's doubtful that you can have missed the Swedish phrase "ja, precis" (literally translated "yes, precisely"), which seem to enter any Swedish conversation with an average rate of once per minute.

Some days ago I got the notice from the almighty gods and godesses at the National Agency for Services to Universities and University Colleges that I've been accepted to the course The Viking Society - General Course, 15 credits. The course is divided into two modules, with the first module giving an overview of the subject with a discussion about the term "Viking", as well as a study of the artifacts from that age. The second module focuses on discussions around Viking society in Scandinavia.

These days, it seems impossible to not spot IKEA ads around the city, calling on you to buy all your christmas presents from them, in only one day. Tempted? We were! As many Swedish families, we spent the weekend with a traditional IKEA shopping tour. No, we didn't stay for the entire day. No, we didn't deposit any kids in the day care center at IKEA. No, we didn't have meatballs at the restaurant half-way point through the store.

Have you ever considered peeling a cucumber before eating it? Or even putting salt on the cucumber because it doesn't taste otherwise? Is your biggest fear in life to catch a cold? Do you swear by fermented wheat as a very refreshing and nice drink? Are you consistently amazed when waiters and public officials are actually nice and willing to help? Would you prefer to avoid Bulgarians?

?...ret börjar lida mot sitt slut och jag känner att det vore kul med någon slags fri programvara-julfika här i Göteborg. Preliminärt siktar vi på den 18 december, altså torsdagen innan jul, och FSFE och FFKP lär bjuda på glögg och pepparkakor och sånt som hör julen till.

Update: Precis efter att jag skickade in det här så fick jag tag i rätt personer för att boka lokal, så det blir fika på Allégården den 18e december, runt klockan 18.30. Mer information kommer inom kort! (Allégården ligger på Södra Allégatan, mellan Hagakyrkan och Järntorget)
